Russia, Ukraine Carry Out Exchange of Two Hundred Prisoners of War Each

(MENAFN) Russia and Ukraine have exchanged nearly 200 prisoners of war from each side in a coordinated transfer, according to reports from Russia’s Defense Ministry.

According to reports, 185 Russian servicemen were returned from Ukrainian-controlled areas, while an equal number of 185 Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel were handed over in return. The exchange was described as a reciprocal humanitarian operation.

The transfer was reportedly facilitated with mediation from the United Arab Emirates, which has played a recurring role in brokering prisoner exchanges between the two sides during the ongoing conflict.

Following the swap, the Russian servicemen were taken to Belarus, where they are receiving medical and psychological support. Authorities stated that they are also being assisted by Russia’s human rights commissioner before being transferred onward to Russia for continued treatment and rehabilitation within defense medical facilities.

Officials noted that this exchange is part of a broader pattern of prisoner swaps carried out over recent months. Similar agreements have previously seen hundreds of detainees returned on both sides, often with international mediation involvement.

Despite ongoing hostilities, both countries have continued to conduct humanitarian exchanges involving prisoners of war and the remains of deceased soldiers, with the United Arab Emirates frequently acting as an intermediary in facilitating such agreements.
